The Global Recycled Standard certifies recycled content and tracks it through a chain of custody from the input material to the finished roll. To claim “recycled” on a garment, the fabric must carry valid GRS documentation — a number on a website is not enough.
| Document | Proves |
|---|---|
| Scope certificate | The mill (and its input suppliers) are certified. Valid for ~1 year. |
| Transaction certificate (TC) | This specific shipment is in the chain. Issued per lot. |
For a recycled claim you need both: the scope cert shows the system exists, the TC shows your order is covered. Verify the scope cert at Textile Exchange.
GRS allows a label claim from 50% recycled content upward (lower percentages can appear in a material declaration but not carry the GRS label). Always state the exact percentage — “recycled” with no number is not a claim you can defend.
We hold GRS and issue transaction certificates per shipment. See the full list on the compliance page. Our recycled pongee is one example built on this chain.
For a defensible GRS label claim you also need a transaction certificate for the specific lot. The scope cert proves the system; the TC proves your goods are in it.
From 50% recycled content upward. Below that it may appear in a material declaration but cannot use the GRS label.
